Abstract |
A description of the founding of Hull, Quebec, (now part of Gatineau) in 1800 by Philemon Wright (1760-1839), an American from Woburn, Massachusetts, and eight Woburn area associates. On March 20, 1800, Wright arrived in Hull Township with 37 men, 5 women, and 21 children, as well as 14 horses and 8 oxen. The community was originally established as an agricultural settlement before Wright became involved in the lucrative timber trade.
