Abstract
Matthew Moody (1811-1887) immigrated from Ireland to Lower Canada when he was eighteen-years old, and in 1833 established a blacksmith shop in Terrebonne, about 40km north of Montreal. Matthew Moody & Sons was founded in 1845 as a maker of agricultural equipment. Today, the company is known as Moody Industries, and manufactures material handling systems for airlines and the food and beverage industries. The author outlines Matthew Moody's contributions to Terrebonne's Anglophone community, including to the local Anglican church and to establishing an elementary school in the town.
