Stories of Nathan Ortenberg in Rural Quebec
|
Abstract |
Nathan Ortenberg (1887-1966) was born in Brusilov, Ukraine, and immigrated to Quebec in the early 1900s. For many years Ortenberg lived in Donnacona, an industrial town located about forty kilometres west of Quebec City, before relocating to Montreal. He had a passion for helping others and connecting with people of all walks of life. This book is a collage of memories and stories put to paper in the 1980's by his children, Michael Ortenberg and Charlotte Huberman, compiled and edited by grandson Ronald Huberman. The collection offers not only inspirational stories of the man, but also provides the reader a window into the world of rural Quebec in the early 1900's, as seen through the lens of a Jewish immigrant living in the prevailing antisemitic climate of the time.
