Discourse like in Quebec English

Abstract |
The author considers the spread of the word "like" in Quebec English, specifically in Montreal and Quebec City, and compares the use of "like" in these two cities with its use in Toronto. Her conclusion is that while both Montreal- and Quebec City-speakers exhibit substantially lower rates than Toronto in their use of "like", the internal conditioning of "like" in Quebec English is practically identical to that found in Toronto English.
