Abstract |
Traditional Irish heritage music from the Shannon and Valcartier areas, northwest of Quebec City. Both towns are situated along the Jacques Cartier River. Shannon was founded in the 1830s by Irish immigrants, and their descendants composed the majority of the inhabitants into the twentieth century. Part of Shannon territory was expropriated at the outbreak of the First World War to enlarge the Valcartier military base.
