Title
Malcolm Fraser : de soldat écossais à seigneur canadien, 1733-1815
Abstract
An officer in the Fraser Highlanders, Malcolm Fraser (1733-1815) took part in the sieges of Louisbourg and Île Royale (Cape Breton Island), and the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, the Battle of Sainte-Foy and the surrender of Montreal. At the end of the war, Governor James Murray ceded to Fraser the Seigneury of Mount Murray (Cap-à-l'Aigle). Later Fraser became Seigneur of L'Islet-du-Portage (Saint-André) and part of Île d'Orléans (Saint-Famille and Saint-Jean). The author argues that Fraser's Scottish roots as a member of a conquered people made him sympathetic to the feelings of his French Canadian tenants. He is buried in Quebec City.
