Abstract |
A memoir of the author’s bohemian life in Charlevoix County in the 1930s. Ms. Smith (1907-2005) was among many artists who visited and painted this region of the province during this era, including A.Y. Jackson, Edwin Holgate, George Pepper, Kathleen Daly, Stanley Cosgrove and Marius Barbeau. Primarily associated with Montreal, the work of Jori Smith spans several decades and her evolution as a modern Canadian painter parallels the founding and growth of the Canadian Group of artists and the Contemporary Art Society.
