Deux enrichis : Aaron Hart et Nicolas (sic) Montour
|
Abstract |
A less than flattering account by the author of Aaron Hart (c.1724-1800) and Nicholas Montour (1756-1808), the former because he was an Anglo Jew and the latter because he was an anglicized Protestant. Hart was a prosperous merchant who came to Quebec with the British army at the time of the Conquest and who settled in Trois-Rivières. Montour was a fur trader and part owner of the North West Company, a politician who supported the English Party and a land owner in Montreal and Trois-Rivières.
