Title
Le Nord-Ouest québécois, un carrefour d'influences culturelles: de la frontière à la région
Abstract
The author points out that in the broad debate concerning the construction of a more or less homogeneous Quebec culture, the north-western region (Abitibi-Temiscamingue) presents some original aspects. She outlines the development of the area which, unlike many other parts of the province, was first settled by Indigenous Peoples, then by Francophones, Anglophones and European immigrants, and has a strong attachment with neighbouring Ontario, more so than with southern Quebec. The author outlines the characteristics of socio-cultural life in the region during the pioneering period and the late twentieth century.
