Abstract |
There were five Protestant churches of three different denominations in Montreal in 1822 when the American Presbyterian Church was established -- two Presbyterian, two Methodist and one Church of England. The American Presbyterian Church was founded by a group of American-born Montrealers who did not find the Church of Scotland atmosphere of the other two Presbyterian churches to their liking. This group joined the Presbyterian Church in the United States in 1824 and remained connected to it until 1925 when it joined the United Church of Canada.
