Irish-born Montreal poet William Henry Drummond (1854-1907) was the author of such popular books of poetry as The Habitant, published in 1897. The author
argues that Drummond's poetry warrants reconsideration on account of its complex articulation of the values and attitudes of Anglophone cultural nationalism and its deployment of Francophone stereotypes in order to secure British Canadian hegemony at the turn of the twentieth century.
