Abstract
An analysis of Scottish-born John Neilson's (1776-1848) activities in Lower Canada's Legislative Assembly between 1818 and 1828, and his representation in England in 1823 on the matter of the Union Bill, and in 1828 before the Canada Committee to present the Assembly's complaints against Governor Dalhousie's administration. The author examines the question of Lower Canada's administration and the struggle between Assembly and Executive for control, as well as relations with Britain and with Upper Canada.
