Abstract |
Montreal native Oscar Peterson, a jazz legend, began his international career at Carnegie Hall in 1949, received the Order of Canada in 1972, was inducted into the International Academy of Jazz Hall of Fame in 1996, and has won critical acclaim, including seven Grammy awards. The author recounts Peterson’s early life growing up in Montreal. In 1993, at age 67, Peterson suffered a stroke that affected his left hand. It took him fourteen months of physical therapy to return to playing.
