Intérieurs montréalais, immigration et identité : la domesticité en transition
|
Abstract |
An examination of the interiors of two Montreal apartments inhabited by two European-born immigrants who moved to the city in the mid-twentieth century. The author wishes to illustrate the links between the individual and the home, a place that offers comfort and familiarity in the immigrant's transition to a new culture. The first apartment belongs to Irene Marks who immigrated to Montreal from Dresden, Germany, in 1939; and the second apartment belongs to Gabor Szilasi, who came from Budapest, Hungary, in 1956.
