Hassidim and the 'Reasonable Accommodation' Debate in Quebec
|
Abstract |
A study of the reaction to the request by Hasidic Jews in Montreal's Mile End district that the local YMCA install frosted windows so that Hasidic boys in a neighbouring synagogue would not be able to see women in exercise clothes. The author examines this issue within the context of the Quebec's "Reasonable Accommodation" debate about how the province's secular majority should respond to religious minorities whose practices were clashing with their values.
