Title
D'Arcy McGee and the New Nationality
Abstract
A critical analysis of the Irish-born Thomas D'Arcy McGee's (1825-1868) concept of the new Canadian nationality that would evolve as a result of a union of the British North American provinces in 1867. Based on McGee's editorials in his Montreal-based newspaper, New Era, the author also examines the role McGee played as defender of and spokesman for the Irish Catholic minority in the Province of Canada
