Abstract
The first two chapters of this thesis describes the social conditions in the province between 1867 and 1882, as well as the evolution of political parties in post-Confederation Quebec. The author outlines the relationships between English Quebec's economic elite and the English-speaking political representatives with the French Quebec secular and clerical elites.
