Abstract |
Immigrants' involvement in Quebec's former confessional educational system is viewed through the experience of the city's Jewish and Italian communities. The author discusses the degree to which the two host communities, French and English, were unwilling to alter their religious or nationalist doctrines (French Catholic) and institutional structures (English Protestant) to accommodate other ethnic groups.
