Abstract |
The author examines how the arrival of immigrants from Ireland's Great Hunger (1845-1849) marked not only a demographic turning point in Lower Canada, but, politically, it put an end to the Irish and French-Canadian alliance that earlier had existed for decades in the colony. He also notes that the historiography on Irish Quebec by academic is much neglected.
