Title
Itinéraire migratoire des jeunes qui ont quitté l'école secondaire anglaise au Québec en 1971
Abstract
The author presents an abridged version of four reports on a longitudinal study of the migratory movement, in and out of Quebec, of one cohort of young Anglophones -- those who left high school in Quebec in 1971. In 1971, there were 84 English-language high schools in Quebec. The study questioned 975 individuals, which the author claims is representative of all those who, in 1971, left an English language high school (graduated or dropped out after attaining legal leaving age). The school leavers were first contacted in 1976 and re-contacted twice subsequently, once in 1979 and again in 1982-1983. It is the results of this last contact which the author presents in this article. Although indicative of the migratory experience of one cohort only (those who left an English high school in 1971), the author believes that the results constitute the only such longitudinal data available in the 1980s on the out-migration of young Anglophones from Quebec: one half had left eleven years after leaving high school, as had one-fifth of their parents.
