| Abstract |
Adrien Arcand (1899-1967), the self-proclaimed "Canadian Führer", established the anti-Semitic fascist Parti National Social Chrétien (Christian National Social Party) in Quebec in 1934. Party members were known by their military-style uniforms, including swastika badges, as Les Chemises bleues (the Blue Shirts). The author explains that Arcand saw Jewish plots everywhere and his followers sought scapegoats for what they saw as the evils corroding society. Arcand advocated the deportation of Canadian Jews to Hudson Bay. Even after his imprisonment during the Second World War, the fanatical Adrien Arcand continued his correspondence with those on the frontlines of anti-Semitism. Until his death in 1967, he pursued his campaign of propaganda against communists and Jews.
