Abstract |
Ogilvy Renault LLP was a Canadian law firm with 450 members in offices in Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec, Toronto, Calgary and London, England. The firm began in Montreal 1879 as Carter, Church & Chapleau. In 1979, the firm decided to name itself after its then two senior members, Anglophone J. Angus Ogilvy and Francophone Paul F. Renault. Angus Ogilvy graduated from McGill's law school in 1926. Apparently there was a long and lively debate over whether to separate the names with a comma. The comma remained until it was removed from the firm's name at the end of 1988. In 2001, the firm merged with Meighen Demers LLP of Toronto, and in 2011 it joined the British law firm of Norton Rose.
