Abstract
A biography of Wesley Bourne (1886-1965), the founding chair in 1945 of the Department of Anesthesia at McGill University. Along with Montreal anaesthetists Harold Griffith and Digby Leigh, Bourne dominated much of the field of anaesthesia during the 1940s. During the Second World War, the three started training programs for the armed forces, which developed into an anaesthesia course after the war.
