Title
Commission on Payment of Damages for Rebellion Losses in Lower Canada
Abstract
A statement of all claims made to the Commissioners appointed under the act for the payment of the rebellion losses of 1837 and 1838 in Lower Canada, together with the names and residences of the claimants and the amounts and nature of their individual claims. The passage of the 1849 act to compensate individuals, including rebels, for damages incurred during the rebellions led to a riot by English-speaking Tories in Montreal and the burning of the Parliament building, then located in that city.
