Abstract |
A study of municipal reaction to public health in Montreal, from the apprehended cholera outbreak of 1865 to the smallpox epidemic of 1885-86. The authors single out the role played by Mayor William Hingston, a medical doctor, during his term in office (1875-1877) in upgrading the sanitary conditions of the city.
