School Achievement and Cultural Adjustment of the Chinese Adolescents in Montreal, Canada
|
Abstract |
An investigation of the differences in school achievement and socio-cultural adjustment of twenty-five Canadian-born and foreign-born Chinese youth attending West Hill High School in Montreal. The author also examines their subculture by examining the relationships to the youths' family, peers, teachers, school and community. As expected, the author found that the foreign-born students possessed higher educational and vocational aspirations and experienced more serious adjustment problems than the Canadian-born students, but unexpectedly their academic achievement was found to be lower than their Canadian-born counterparts.
