The Japanese in Montreal: Socio-Economic Integration and Ethnic Identification of an Immigrant Group
|
Abstract |
In 1976-77, the author interviewed 184 Japanese Montrealers who immigrated to Canada after the Second World War in order to study their personal backgrounds, immgration patterns and processes of adaptation to Canadian society. The author found that they believed there was a perception of prejudice towards them in the host society that affected their ability to adjust. The author's data also revealed that although these immigrants have slowly become integrated into Canadian society, their sense of being a member of a particular ethnic group does not quickly diminish.
