Abstract |
An examination of the development of the Montreal suburb of Rosemount in the east-end of the city between 1892 and 1910. The Rosemount Land Improvement Company, under the direction of Herbert Samuel Holt and Ucal-Henri Dandurand, acquired cadastral lot 172 and subdivided the property into 2,553 lots, with the intention of capitalizing on the development of the nearby Canadian Pacific Railway's Angus shops to attract prospective buyers. The population of the area by 1910 was predominately working class, sixty-three percent French Canadian, twenty-nine percent of British descent (English, Scottish and Irish), with the remainder of other nationalities.
