Osler’s McGill: Medical Education from 1870 to 1885
|
Abstract |
In 1870 William Osler (1849-1919) left his medical studies at the University of Toronto to finish his final two years at McGill University, graduating in 1872. After two years of study abroad, Osler returned to McGill’s medical faculty where he taught for ten years. The authors survey McGill’s medical studies environment of the time, examining faculty members and reforms to the curriculum at the university that contributed to Osler’s development as a doctor. They also examine Osler’s subsequent contributions to medical education as a faculty member at McGill.
