Dominant Themes and Images in the Collected Work of Mac Shoub, Quebec English-Language Radio Dramatist
|
Abstract |
The author examines Montreal writer and radio actor Mac Shoub's (1919-2000) plays, which she notes fall into four distinct phases. The initial phase of his plays are war-related dramas, followed by a focus on the individual and the city, which gave way to psychological and mystery dramas, to a final phase dealing with the emotional reactions to social problems of the time. The author gives details of Shoub's biography and of the social conditions prevailing during his radio writing career (1942-1965), and lists Shoub's original radio dramas, his dramatic adaptions, and his CBC television dramas.
