Abstract
The author presents an historical overview of university student movements in Quebec, with a focus on demonstrations that occurred in 1911 and 1933. According to the author, the first event started on October 13, 1911, at McGill University at the conclusion of the student initiation festivites, when freshmen underwent a hazing by sophomore students, marking the start of the new academic year. The evening activities in 1911 led to vandalism both inside the university compound and in downtown Montreal. According to the author, similar disruptive activities during hazing at McGill were repeated regularly over the next two decades. In 1933, students at the Montreal campus of Quebec City's Université Laval demonstrated to raise awareness about of the need of a Francophone university based in the city.
