Abstract |
A history of the Price family, timber and lumber merchants in Quebec City and the Saguenay, from 1810 to 1924. In the late 1830s, the British-born William Price (1789-1867) encourged settlement by squatters along the Saguenay River and the building of saw mills on land that the Crown had leased to the Hudson Bay Company. In 1843, the government was pressured to open the area to colonization, and Price bought up all the saw mills in the area.
