Title
Itinéraires scolaires et socialisation ethnique : le cas de deux écoles judéo-québécoises
Abstract
The author examines the construction of ethnic identities and the role of the school in the acquisition of these identities by focusing on the ethnic socialization in two Jewish schools in Montreal, one frequented by Ashkenazi Jews and the other by Sephardic Jews. Sephardic assert their geo-cultural identity in spite of the fact that they share the judeite with their Ashkenazi co-religionists. From the study of the materials collected through interviews and questionnaires, as well as from the analysis of the curriculum, the author highlights the convergent and divergent aspects of the identity specific to each of the two groups.
