Abstract |
Examines the interactions between Japanese Canadians and French Quebecers during the twentieth century. French Quebecers were largely indifferent to Japanese immigration before the Second World War, but came into close contact with Japanese Canadians for the first time as large numbers resettled in Montreal during the war. The author argues that Japanese Canadians found a more supportive environment than they had experienced on the West Coast before the war, and many remained in the city after the war.
