Québec au XIXe siècle : l'activité économique des grands marchands
|
Abstract |
An examination of economic activities of Quebec City merchants between 1800 and 1830. The author argues that this era produced a "new" generation of businessmen who were not tied to the fur trade, as were earlier generations. This new generation, according to the author, was more involved in the inter-colonial and international import and export trade, and had close ties to the civil administration and military establishment. Although predominately Anglophone, the author points out that Francophone were among this new business elite.
