Late Victorian and Edwardian Jewellery in Montreal
|
Abstract |
A brief study of jewellery fashion and the jewellery business in Montreal at the turn of the twentieth century. One of Canada's finest jewellery stores of the mid-Victorian era was Savage & Lyman of Montreal. Working these since 1857 was a young clerk named Henry Birks, who in 1879 opened his own jewellery store in the city. The author studies the jewellery of Montreal women as photographed by William Notman and his son William MacFarlane Notman.
