La place du dessin dans les politiques scolaires catholiques et protestantes du Québec

Abstract |
In 1876, the Quebec legislature required that all schools in the province teach drawing and develop programs based on those used by the South Kensington Department of Science and Art in London and the Massachusetts Normal Art School in Boston. These programs emphasized industrial design. The authors point out that by the 1890s, however, French Catholic schools were permitted to use the manual by Canadian Edmond M. Templé. The Templé method included drawing as fine art.
