Title
Dynamiques familiales de la communauté hindoue de Montréal : contrer la violence intrafamiliale
Abstract
An ethnographic study of family dynamics and the problem of domestic violence among Montreal’s immigrant Hindu families. The author examined ten variables: gender, age, skin pigmentation, caste, class, status and position in the family, type of household, culture/religion, ethnicity/minority status and immigration. These variables are analyzed in the way they affect the functioning of individuals at diverse system levels. Three categories of respondents were interviewed in depth: 19 Hindu key informants; 6 experienced interveners with that clientele; 2 Hindu women victims of domestic violence having received the help of services in Quebec. Also, the files of 4 violent Hindu men who have asked for help from a Montreal agency for violent spouses were examined.
