L’exogamie et les transferts linguistiques au Québec
Abstract
In a 1975 study, the author found that there were twenty-one percent of English-speaking spouses and twenty-four perent of Allophone spouses who chose French-speaking partners. He found that endogamous couples used in the vast majority of cases their mother tongue. However, there were a number of couples who made a language transfer and he estimated that about one-third of transfers come from endogamous individuals. There were 3.5 percent of couples where one of the spouses was French and the other English and these couples used English in sixty percent of cases.
