Title
Changes in the Jewish Population in the Old Area of Jewish Settlement in Montreal Within a Radius of one Mile from Corner of Jeanne Mance St. & Villeneuve Ave., in the Period from 1951 to 1957
Abstract
The author examines the impact of the post-Second World War Jewish immigration to Montreal up to 1957. As Montreal's Jewish population moved westward to more affluent accommodations in the 1950s, the Jewish population in the city's older Jewish settlement area decreased substantially. The author discusses the impacts on synagogues, schools, recreational facilities and other social and community services catering to the Jewish population in the older area that accompanied the demographic shift.
