Abstract

Among the topics covered by the author are the influence of the East European and Jewish painters in the 1930s and 1940s, the creation of the Contemporary Arts Society in 1939, the isolation of Quebec’s Anglophone visual arts community in the 1950s and 1960s, and the impact of nationalist politics in Quebec on the once predominantly Anglophone-run Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
