Title
Scholar Librarians : Gould, Lomer and Penningnton
Abstract
Between 1893 and 1964 the McGill University Libraries were dominated by the librarians Charles Henry Gould (1855-1919), Gerhard R. Lomer (1882-1970), and Richard Pennington (1904-?). The author evaluates their effectiveness in transforming the university's libraries from a small teaching collection into a major research resource. Each man is considered as a bookman, scholar, and administrator with the conclusion that in composite the three men became the ideal scholar librarian.
