Title
Community Development in English-Speaking Communities in Québec: Lessons Learned from a Participatory Action Research Project.
Abstract
A report of a community development project as practiced by public health professionals carried out in six English-speaking communities in Quebec between 2009 and 2013. The six communities studied were: Bonne-Espérance (Lower North Shore); Sept-Îles (Côte-Nord); New Carlisle (Gaspé); Sutton (Eastern Townships); Laval; and St. Léonard (Montreal). These communities were chosen because they represented very different socio-economic, demographic, and geographic realities. The project objectives were three-fold: to increase knowledge on English-speaking communities in Québec; to develop tools for mobilizing theses communities; and to support other English-speaking communities in implementing a community development approach.
