Abstract
A history of English-language radio in Montreal, starting with Canada's first radio station (XWA/CFCF-AM) in 1920. CFCF went off the air in 2010. In 1945, J. Arthur Dupond ("J.A.D."), a local Francophone broadcasting entrepreneur, established the English radio station CJAD, and in 1960 Gordon Sinclair Jr. established CFOX. That station lasted until 1977. Other English language stations included CKGM-AM (1959-2003) and CKGM-FM, established in 1969, which later changed its name to CHOM-FM.
