A Study of Political Attitudes in Pontiac County
|
Abstract |
A study of political attitudes based on language and religion. Pontiac County, in West Quebec, was chosen by the author because of its ethnic composition of the area - French-speaking Catholics, English-speaking Catholics and English-speaking Protestants. The author set out to determine local attitudes, circa 1970, toward federal and provincial governments and political parties based on cleavages of language and religion. Her data analysis indicated the existence of an association between language and a specific orientation towards the two levels of government. An historic background of the settlement of the county is also given.
