Les terrace houses dans la ville de Québec, ou l'implantation d'un type résidentiel urbain britannique

Abstract |
The terrace, a set of row houses designed to form a monumental whole, is a residential architecture type of which many examples can be found in Quebec City. This design choice was most popular from its first appearance in 1815 until 1915, and continues to mark the city's architectural landscape today. Its presence not only reflects the architectural context of that period, but also the historic, cultural and social contexts. Based on these different contextual viewpoints, the author examines the development of the terrace in Great Britain, its export throughout the British colonies, and its establishment evolution in Quebec City.
