Media coverage of sports in Canada developed with the transition from “political” newspapers to the “popular” press in the second half of the nineteenth century. The author’s analysis includes a description of the growing amount of sports coverage in such papers as the Montreal Daily Star, the Gazette and the Montreal Herald.
