The author describes the role played by Montreal jazz impresario and big-band orchestra leader Johnny Holmes (1916-1989) in the 1940s in introducing two young Montreal jazz musicians who would go on to world-renowned fame -- pianist Oscar Peterson (1925-2007) and trumpeter Maynard Ferguson (1928-2006).
