Abstract |
The author points out that the legacy of nineteenth century Montreal Scottish art collectors, especially Donald Alexander Smith (1820-1914), Lord Strathcona, to the formation of a Canadian cultural identity in a European humanist mode is recognized in the re-installation in 2002 of the nineteenth century galleries at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
