The author examines scientific life in Quebec between 1850 and 1920, focusing specifically on naturalists. Although heavily focussed on Francophone scientists, the author does include a number of Anglophone Quebecers, including: Edward David Ashe (1813-1895); George Barnston (1800-1883); James Barnston (1831-1858); Elkanah Billings (1820-1876); George John Bowles (1837-1887); William Couper (1843-1890); John William Dawson (1820-1899); George Mercer Dawson (1849-1901); and Carrie Matilda Derick (1862-1941).
